2008: Barbara Hilty, APLD

Barbara Hilty, APLD
is a past president of APLD's Oregon Chapter,
and has served in many positions on the Chapter's Board
of Directors. In 2009 she was co-chair of the APLD Local
Site Committee that did the planning for the 2009 APLD
Conference in Portland, Oregon. She continues to
be active in planning chapter events.
Hilty started her business, Barbara Hilty
Landscape Design, in 1982. Hilty was certified as a
Professional Landscape Designer by APLD in 2002. |
Barbara's Biography:
Hilty has been doing landscape design in the Pacific
Northwest for over 20 years. The jobs in the Pacific
Northwest have been in very diverse microclimates,
ranging from the coast to the mountains. (She has also
done landscape jobs in Colorado, New Mexico and West
Virginia.)
Barbara has a degree
in Renewable Natural Resources from UC Davis
and a life long interest in sustainability giving her a
scientific understanding of the ecology of place and how
to best create a healthy garden for her clients.

Hilty enjoys
the always-changing design challenges
her clients throw her plus the chance to learn
more with each new plant introduction, new
developments in the industry, in science, and
in the art world.

Barbara studied landscape design at Portland
Community College,
and she comes from a family of artists. She
visits gardens when ever she can, either
locally or in other countries for more
inspiration and ideas that can be used in her
design work. Most of her landscape design work
comes from referrals from previous satisfied
clients.
